New Bishop of Waiapu welcomed

More than 700 Anglican parishioners and wellwishers crowded into St John Cathedral in Napier on Saturday to celebrate the ordination of Andrew Hedge as the 16th Bishop of Waiapu. 5th NZ Football Futsal National League

Eight teams went head-to-head over three days this weekend during the fifth NZ Football Futsal National League, held at Napier's Pettigrew Green Arena. Futsal is a Fifa-approved version of five-a-side indoor football. Photographer Duncan Brown was there to capture all the action, thrills and a few spills on Saturday.

Salute to the past as church celebrates

St Andrew’s Church, Hastings, came alive with costumed churchgoers on Saturday, celebrating the church’s 125-year anniversary. A pageant showcased the church's rich history. Chief photographer Warren Buckland was there.

Men in black and white save the night

It wasn’t pretty but the Hawke’s Bay Magpies rugby team locked the Ranfurly Shield away for the summer when first five-eighth Ihaia West kicked an 80th minute dropped goal to secure a 20-all draw with Southland at Napier’s McLean Park on Saturday night. This was the Hawke’s Bay union’s 51st defence of the shield and saw the Magpies move up to third equal place with Waikato in tenure wins. Photographer Duncan Brown was among the 11,500 spectators.

There was no absence of colour at the Colour Dash fun run, held at Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay on Sunday. The charity race saw runners covered with colourful dust and proceeds going to Ronald McDonald House. Chief photographer Warren Buckland captured the action.
