Hastings K-Mart celebrates 20 years
Hastings K-Mart store celebrated 20 years since it opened its doors to the region in November 2012. There are now 15 K-mart stores in New Zealand and the first opened in Auckland in 1988. The Hastings store followed four years later, opening on October 20, 1992, and remained one of the "top five" in the country

F.A.W.C Opening Weekend November 2012
The first serving of Hawke's Bay's inaugural 56-event Food & Wine Classic was launched in delicious style at the weekend with assurances the festival would be the first of many. F.A.W.C. runs for 10 days and had already tempted the tastebuds of many from outside the region with individual tastings and themed meals to suit all palates.

The Hawke's Bay A&P Mercedes-Benz Wine Awards staged at the picturesque Waikoko Gardens in Hastings last night was a sparkling and colourful gala affair, and a memorable night for all the winners, but especially those who picked up the top three titles.

Pointed Inc Deco City Cats Show 2012
The 13th annual Pointed Inc Deco City Cats all breeds show, held in Napier on Saturday, was a great success, with plenty of spectators and entries from around the country. The show was set up at Rodney Green Centennial Events Centre and drew 130 cats of all breeds, including a section for the much-loved domestic moggy. "You get to see all different types of cat - long hair, short hair, some with no hair," show manager Dennis Humphreys said. "People came from Queenstown, Auckland, Wellington - the whole North Island really. We had a lot of public in attendance as well." PHOTOS GLENN TAYLOR

Speedway photographer hit by sidecar motorcycle
Minutes after taking a shot of medics attending to an injured sidecar rider, freelance photographer Daniel Reyland found himself in the back of an ambulance after being struck by an out-of-control outfit seconds after the race re-start. "It's just one of those things," Mr Reyland said yesterday as he reflected on the incident at Meeanee Speedway last Saturday night which left him with a broken foot, a lacerated finger and plenty of bruises. The sound of feet pounding pavement was accompanied by determined looks from those who took part in yesterday's Hawke's Bay Today Country2Coast event. Men, women and children chose their pace with the option of a 17km run or walk starting at River Rd in Havelock North or a 7km run or walk from Haumoana to Clifton Bay Cafe.

As Hawke's Bay Today staff and APN Print prepared the final afternoon edition of the newspaper, Online Editor Peter Fowler followed the paper through the production process live on Twitter. Grant Harding Ironman II: The Finish Line
After many hard months of hitting the pavement, personal challenges and sickness, Hawke's Bay Today deputy editor Grant Harding finished the Taupo half-Ironman in 6 hours 17 minutes 1 second. He was placed 1050 out of 1417 finishers. "Triathlon now feels like a way of life."
