Situation:
A ridge of high pressure builds over much of the country today, while a trough will be to the north of the North Island. A strong cold front pushes over the South Island on Monday, followed by a cold, southerly flow. On Tuesday, a front is expected to stall and weaken over the upper South Island. A moist easterly flow over northern New Zealand should strengthen during Tuesday and Wednesday as a sub-tropical low approaches from the north. A new ridge builds over the South Island, which weakens on Thursday.
