A strong southwesterly flow over the country eases today as a ridge of high pressure builds from the west. The high pressure system moves east over New Zealand tomorrow. The high pressure system covers the majority of New Zealand on Friday and throughout the weekend. A weak front brings rain to the south of the South Island late on Friday. Meanwhile, a slow-moving trough lies to the northeast of the North Island, directing a southeast flow over northern regions.
